june 20

Wednesday june 20- we spent the day "UNPLUGGED". No phone. No internet. Just me and meke together playing and trying out a new home schedule. We like it!! His favorite thing is to say "ok, Free Play!!" We love being out and about, but we also just love being home bodies!! it was a really good day together!

Why International Adoption??

There are an estimated 147 million orphans worldwide.
Over 5,700 children become orphans every day. every day.
101 million children are not attending primary school. The majority being girls.
1 billion children are deprived of one or more services essential to survival.
Every 14 seconds, a child becomes an orphan.
One in ten children die before their 1st birthday
One in six children die before their 5th birthday
Ethiopia's doctor to child ratio is 1 to 24,000
Half of the children in Ethiopia will never attend school
88% in Ethiopia will never attend secondary school
44% of the Ethiopian population is under 15 years old
The median age in Ethiopia is 17.8 years
Per capita, Ethiopia receives less aid than any country in Africa

Dec 9- Arrive in London (the things we do for frequent flyer miles)
Dec 8- Depart DFW
Dec 2- Additional Home Visit (Texas requirement)
Nov 25- In-Country Travel Call with Mindy
Nov 20- Aaron Gebre's 6-month b-day & Julie called to CONFIRM TRAVEL for DEC 12-17!!!!!!!!!!travel
Nov 18- Julie gave TENTATIVE travel dates!!!!
Nov 11- Julie called to say that we PASSED COURT!!
Nov 10- Court in Ethiopia!!!
Nov 5- Travel Conference Call for both of us!!
Nov 2- Care package left Portland for Addis Ababa!
Oct 22- Julie called- COURT IS NOV 10!!!!!
Oct 12- COURTS REOPEN- YEA!!
Oct 1- "Next Steps" conference call with Julie!!
Sept 30- another happy day!!
Sept 21- Mailed Referral papers to AGCI!!, Pampered Chef Fundraiser Party
Sept 19- Fundraiser weekend (garage sale, lemonade stand, & 1st day of Quilt Raffle
Sept 18- Appt with Social Worker for referral approval and release
Sept 17- Infant Referral Call with Emily House
Sept 15- notary appt with Laura
Sept 14- Referral packet arrived on our doorstep from AGCI!
Sept 12- Dr. Eckel gave us the "green light"!!
Sept 11- Complete daze all day... "We have a son!!" :)
Sept 10- THE CALL THAT CHANGED OUR LIVES!!
Sept. 4- officially #1 with AGCI!!!
Sept. 1- unofficially #1!!!
Aug. 25- Favorable Determination Letter arrives in mailbox!
Aug. 14- unofficially #2 on the boy list!! wow!!
Aug. 13- mailed international pediatrician papers
August 6- #5 on waiting list (#4 given, but corrected to be #5)
July 25- USCIS fingerprinting appt
July 10- Made #6 for boys and #30 for girls!!
June 22- We are #11 for boy and #38 for girl!!
June 19- Kiersten called to say that our dossier looks great, & that we made the waiting list!! get out #'s when check arrives!!
June 18- Mailed check to AGCI to go along with dossier
June 17- Dossier received at AGCI!
June 15- Dossier left for AGCI!
June 11- Completed Home Study arrives at our house!!
June 5, 2009- 5th month of adoption
May 16- Patricia tells us home study needs revisions to fit hague country
May 2, 2009- 99% done with dossier, just waiting on reviewed home study!
Apr. 15- Completed all of our education courses
Apr. 7- Patricia emailed our home study draft to us to review!
Apr. 4, 2009- Adoption Seminar for Home Study
Mar. 31- Completed "Conspicious Families" home study course
Mar. 28- Home Study Appt. #4
Mar. 25- Criminal Checks done
Mar. 24- Workbook in the mail!
Mar. 15-19- Spring Break, no adoption work
Feb. 26- Aaron's Individual Home Study Appt #3
Feb. 23- Whitney's Individual Home Study Appt #2
Feb. 12- Our 1st Home Study with Patricia!
Feb. 4- Our social worker Patricia called for first time to schedule first Home Study. "With Eyes Wide Open" workbook arrived at our house
Feb. 3- Dossier Walk-Through phone call with Julie, rec'd USCIS confirmation receipt
Feb. 2, 2009- Dossier Walk-Through phone call with our Ethiopia case manager Julie (but pre-adoption planner did not arrive yet), rescheduled call for next day, pre-adoption planner arrived that afternoon
Jan. 29- Hope Cottage rec'd our paperwork (just missing 2 items)
Jan. 28- Mailed documents back to Hope Cottage, Mailed I-600A and G28 to USCIS!
Jan. 26- Hope Cottage Orientation meeting with Cassandra for Home Study, Mailed our contract & notarized documents to AGCI
Jan. 20- AGCI Orientation conference call with Kiersten
Jan. 17- Hope Cottage paperwork arrived at our house
Jan. 15- started announcing to family and friends!!!!
Jan. 14- AGCI orientation paperwork arrived at our house
Jan. 12- WE ARE APPROVED with AGCI! Chose Hope Cottage for home study
Jan. 7- AGCI rec'd application, needed 2 items, met Kiersten on phone!
Jan. 5- Mailed official application to AGCI
Jan. 3, 2009- Rec'd AGCI info packet, dvd, and book
Dec. 29, 2008- Found All God's Children International, submitted pre-application
Dec. 22, 2008- Decided to ADOPT! WooHoo!!
